I (Heart) Packaging.

Andrew Zo is an award winning, independent packaging designer. He combines his skills in structural design & graphic design to find the best solution for each project. He is familiar with the design process as well as the production procedure to ensure that brilliant ideas can be realized. Andrew’s designs are rooted in research and he believes that a good packaging design is also a great performer.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Andrew regularly works with local brands that have a global reach. He has worked with bioLytical to redesign and launch the world’s fastest HIV self test. He revamped the entire private label packaging for the much beloved Canadian brand, MEC. One of his personal projects, the Clifton case, went viral around the world–which helps to hide an engagement ring with ease during a proposal.

His designs have been featured on Fast Company, The Dieline, Packaging of The World, Notcot and various publications.

How I Design

Research & Understand First

because we need to know who & what we are designing for.

Example

For bioLytica’s INSTI Test, I conducted the rapid test myself during the design process.

Avoid Trends

Because trends come and go.

Example

For Origo‘s illustrations, a slightly imperfect illustration style was used to create a unique look.

Rapid Prototype Testing

Because some ideas only sound great on paper and not in reality.

Example

For MEC’s Bike Lights Packaging, many cardboard prototypes were made to refine the dieline before samples were requested.

Work Closely With The Manufacturer

Because they ensure the design is produced correctly & efficiently.

Example

For SAXX’s Mega Lux Packaging, I worked with the manufacturer to create a 1 SKU design for 2 products.
